An Associate Degree, which is the most prevalent among technicians, usually requires 18 months to two years to finish based upon the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at up to four years to complete and is more comprehensive in nature. The majority of students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are other related majors that may be appropriate as well. Radiologic Technologist Certification and Licensing

Once you have graduated from an x-ray technician school, depending on the state where you will be employed you might have to be licensed. The majority of states do require licensing, and their criteria vary so get in touch with your state. Presently, all states that do mandate licensing will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the licensing application, but several accept other alternatives for testing as well. A number of states also require certification as a component of the licensing procedure, otherwise it is voluntary. However, many Tontitown AR employers prefer to hire radiology techs that are certified so it could improve your career options to become certified. So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then an online school may be the best choice for you.

Topics to Ask X Ray Tech Schools

As soon as you have decided on the type of degree that you want to obtain, you can start the process of locating and assessing Tontitown AR x-ray technician colleges. You will also have to decide if you want to attend classes online or drive to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be relevant. The cost of tuition and secondary expenditures will be an important variable as well. But in addition to cost and location, what else should you factor in when comparing colleges? Well, you should ask if the schools are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you find out some of these important details prior to making your selection, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the schools you are reviewing.

Are the X-Ray Technician Colleges Accredited? The majority of xray tech schools have acquired some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still important to confirm that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a rigorous examination of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it might also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also help in securing financial aid and student loans, which are often not accessible for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And a number of Tontitown AR health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry level positions.

Are Internships Sponsored? Find out if the Arkansas radiology tech programs you are reviewing have associations with regional hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a great means to receive practical experience in a clinical setting, they are additionally a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they may help graduates and students form professional relationships in the Tontitown AR healthcare community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will undoubtedly want to secure employment quickly after graduation, but getting that first job in a new profession can be difficult without help. Ask if the x-ray tech programs you are interviewing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have substantial networks and great relationships with Tontitown AR healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For a lot of students, the college they decide on will need to be within driving distance of their Tontitown AR home. Students who have chosen to attend online classes obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. Something to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of student that likes to sit far in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will probably want a smaller class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Tontitown AR schools you are considering what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with a few of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the x-ray technician program also.

Does the College Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the radiographer  program you finally choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you choose to continue working while attending classes. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in Tontitown AR, check that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to carry. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss because of work, illness or family obligations.
