Radiologic technologist students have the choice to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most typical among technicians, normally takes 18 months to two years to complete depending on the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at as much as four years to complete and is more extensive in nature. The majority of students opt for a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional similar majors that may be appropriate as well. Something to bear in mind is that Clifton AZ radiographer schools have a practical training or lab component as part of their curriculum. It can frequently be satisfied by taking part in an internship or externship program which many colleges sponsor through local clinics and hospitals in their area. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you must abide by any licensing or certification requirements in Arizona or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

X-Ray Tech Certification and Licensing

When you have graduated from an x-ray technician program, depending on the state where you will be employed you may need to become licensed. Most states do mandate licensing, and their requirements differ so contact your state. Presently, all states that do mandate licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the licensing application, but many provide other alternatives for testing as well. A number of states also call for certification as part of the licensing procedure, if not it is optional. Having said that, numerous Clifton AZ employers prefer to hire radiology techs that are certified so it could increase your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an accepted program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive examination. ARRT also demands re-certification every two years, which can be met with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an exam.

This is the same for online degree schools. So while you can still obtain your degree online, a considerable portion of the training will be fulfilled either in a school lab or in an internship off-campus. Clinical training is usually conducted in local hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the colleges. However the online portion of the training can be attended in the comfort of your Clifton AZ home. Students who keep working while obtaining their degree typically discover that the online style of education is far more convenient with their active schedules. Plus online colleges are frequently less expensive than conventional options. Along with lower tuition, expenditures for commuting and study materials can be decreased also. But just make certain that the online program you select is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then an online school may be the ideal choice for you.

What to Ask Radiology Tech Schools

After you have selected the type of degree that you would like to earn, you can begin the process of searching for and evaluating Clifton AZ x-ray technician schools. You will also have to decide if you prefer to attend classes online or travel to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be critical. The cost of tuition and secondary expenses will be an important factor as well. But along with location and cost, what more should you factor in when reviewing schools? Well, you should check out if the schools are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you uncover some of these important details prior to making your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you must ask the colleges you are looking at.

Are the X-Ray Tech Programs Accredited? The majority of radiology tech schools have acquired some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still crucial to verify that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed evaluation of their teachers and educational materials. If the program is online it can also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance learning. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial aid and student loans, which are often not offered for non-accredited schools. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And numerous Clifton AZ health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry level jobs.

Are Internship Programs Sponsored? Inquire if the Arizona xray tech schools you are evaluating have associations with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only an excellent manner to get hands on training in a clinical environment, they are also a means to satisfy the clinical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may help students and graduates form professional relationships in the Clifton AZ healthcare community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will undoubtedly want to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that first job in a new field can be difficult without help. Ask if the radiographer programs you are considering have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good indication that the schools have sizable networks and great relationships with Clifton AZ healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their students are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the college they select will need to be within driving distance of their Clifton AZ residence. Those who have chosen to attend online classes naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges frequently charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the kind of student that prefers to sit far in the back of class or hide in the crowd, you will likely want a small class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Clifton AZ colleges you are reviewing what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you a chance to speak with several of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray tech program also.

Can the College Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to confirm that the radiographer  program you finally choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you decide to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in Clifton AZ, make certain that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would need to enroll in. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of work, illness or family obligations.

Why Did You Choose to Become an X-Ray Tech?

When prepping to interview for an X-Ray Tech position, it's advantageous to review questions you may be asked. Among the things that hiring managers frequently ask radiographer prospects is "What made you select radiography as a profession?". What the interviewer is trying to learn is not just the private reasons you may have for becoming an Xray technician, but also what characteristics and talents you have that make you outstanding at your profession. You will likely be asked questions pertaining primarily to radiography, along with a certain number of routine interview questions, so you need to prepare some ideas about how you would like to respond to them. Given that there are several variables that go into selecting a career, you can respond to this primary question in a multitude of ways. When readying an answer, aim to include the reasons the work appeals to you in addition to the strengths you have that make you an exceptional X-Ray tech and the best candidate for the position. Don't attempt to memorize an answer, but write down a few ideas and topics that pertain to your own strengths and experiences. Reading through sample responses can help you to prepare your own concepts, and inspire ideas of what to include to impress the interviewer.
