What to Ask Radiology Tech Programs

After you have chosen the kind of degree that you would like to earn, you can begin the process of locating and evaluating Silver Lake KS x-ray tech schools. You will also need to determine if you prefer to attend online classes or commute to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be critical. The cost of tuition and secondary expenditures will be an important variable also. But along with cost and location, what more should you consider when evaluating schools? Well, you need to find out if the schools are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you uncover some of these essential details prior to making your selection, we have compiled a list of questions that you must ask the programs you are reviewing.

Are the Radiology Tech Colleges Accredited? A large number of radiology tech colleges have earned some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still imperative to verify that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through an extensive evaluation of their teachers and educational materials. If the college is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online learning. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are frequently not accessible for non-accredited schools. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And numerous Silver Lake KS health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Provided? Ask if the Kansas radiology technician schools you are evaluating have associations with local clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a great way to obtain practical training in a clinical setting, they are also a means to fulfill the clinical training requirement for most programs. As a supplemental benefit, they can help graduates and students develop professional connections in the Silver Lake KS healthcare community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will most likely want to hit the ground running after graduation, but getting that initial job in a new field can be challenging without help. Find out if the x-ray tech programs you are assessing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Silver Lake KS healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For many students, the college they choose will need to be within driving distance of their Silver Lake KS residence. Individuals who have opted to attend online classes naturally will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. Something to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges typically charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the kind of person that likes to sit far in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will probably want a small class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Silver Lake KS colleges you are considering what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to talk with several of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray tech program also.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to verify that the radiographer  college you finally choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you opt to continue working while you attend classes. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in Silver Lake KS, make sure that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, verify if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to enroll in. Also, find out what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss because of work, illness or family obligations.
