At present, all states that do mandate licensing will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the licensing application, but many accept other options for testing as well. Several states also call for certification as part of the licensing process, otherwise it is voluntary. Having said that, many Harwinton CT employers would rather hire radiology techs that are certified so it may increase your career options to become certified. After you have decided on the type of degree that you want to obtain, you can start the process of looking for and evaluating Harwinton CT x-ray tech schools. You will also have to decide if you want to attend online classes or drive to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the school will be relevant. The cost of tuition and ancillary expenditures will be a determining variable also. But along with location and cost, what else should you consider when reviewing colleges? Well, you should ask if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you uncover some of these essential details prior to making your selection, we have compiled a list of questions that you should ask the programs you are assessing.

Are the Radiology Tech Programs Accredited? A large number of radiology technician schools have earned some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still important to confirm that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a detailed examination of their teachers and course materials. If the school is online it might also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also assist in obtaining financial assistance and student loans, which are often not accessible for non-accredited programs. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And a number of Harwinton CT employers will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry-level positions.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Find out if the Connecticut xray technician colleges you are interested in have associations with regional clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific manner to get practical experience in a clinical environment, they are also a means to fulfill the practical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may help graduates and students form professional connections in the Harwinton CT medical community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance available? You will probably wish to secure employment quickly after graduation, but getting that initial job in a new field can be challenging without help. Ask if the radiographer schools you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good indication that the schools have sizable networks and good relationships with Harwinton CT healthcare employers. It also confirms that their students are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the School Located? For a number of students, the school they pick will need to be within commuting distance of their Harwinton CT home. Those who have opted to attend online classes obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. One thing to bear in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a college that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges often charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges frequently charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that prefers to sit way in the back of class or hide in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a smaller class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Harwinton CT colleges you are looking at what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to talk with a few of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray tech program as well.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to confirm that the x-ray tech  program you finally pick can furnish the class schedule you need. This is particularly essential if you choose to continue working while you attend classes. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in Harwinton CT, verify that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would need to enroll in. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss due to work, illness or family emergencies.
