Radiologic technologist students have the opportunity to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among techs, usually takes 18 months to 2 years to finish based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at as much as four years to finish and is more extensive in scope. The majority of students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are other similar majors that may be appropriate as well. Something to consider is that Chataignier LA radiographer colleges have a practical training or lab component as part of their course of study. It can often be satisfied by taking part in an externship program which many schools offer through local clinics and hospitals in their area. Once you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you must comply with any certification or licensing requirements in Louisiana or the state you will be working as applicable.

Radiographer Licensing and Certification

After you have graduated from an X-Ray tech college, based on the state where you will be employed you may need to be licensed. Most states do require licensing, and their criteria differ so get in touch with your state. Currently, all states that do mandate licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the licensing application, but a number provide additional alternatives for testing also. A number of states also require certification as part of the licensing procedure, otherwise it is optional. However, many Chataignier LA employers favor hiring radiology techs that are certified so it might increase your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their rigorous examination. ARRT also calls for re-certification every 2 years, which may be fulfilled with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an examination.

Clinical training is typically carried out in area hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the schools. But the online section of the training may be accessed in the comfort of your Chataignier LA residence. Students who continue working while earning their degree usually discover that the online approach to learning is much more practical with their busy schedules. Plus online schools are generally more affordable than on-campus options. In addition to reduced tuition, costs for commuting and study materials may be reduced also. But just confirm that the online college you select is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then an online school may be the right option for you.

What to Ask Radiology Tech Colleges

The cost of tuition and supplementary expenditures will be a material variable also. But along with location and cost, what else should you consider when comparing colleges? Well, you should find out if the schools are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these essential details prior to making your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the colleges you are reviewing.

Are the X-Ray Technician Colleges Accredited? A large number of xray tech schools have received some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still important to make sure that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a rigorous review of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it can also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also assist in getting financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not offered for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Chataignier LA health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited school for entry level positions.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Find out if the Louisiana xray tech schools you are reviewing have partnerships with regional hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only an excellent way to get practical training in a clinical setting, they are additionally a way to satisfy the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they can help students and graduates establish professional relationships in the Chataignier LA healthcare community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will probably want to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that initial job in a new profession can be difficult without help. Find out if the x-ray tech schools you are interviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good indication that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Chataignier LA healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For a lot of students, the college they choose will have to be within commuting distance of their Chataignier LA home. Those who have decided to attend online classes obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. One thing to bear in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a college that is out of state or even out of your local area, you may be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges generally charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of person that prefers to sit way in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a small class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Chataignier LA schools you are researching what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with several of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the x-ray technician program also.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must confirm that the radiographer  program you ultimately choose can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you choose to continue working while you attend classes. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in Chataignier LA, verify that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would need to carry. Also, find out what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of work, illness or family emergencies.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.

The name Chataignier is French and means "chinquapin," a small chestnut. Chinquapins (castenea punita) grew abundantly in the surrounding prairie until the chestnut blight wiped them out. They are now non-existent in the Chataignier community.

Gleanings from old records indicate that Chataignier's first settler was Ursiana Manuel who came from Mexico via New Orleans circa 1793 when Louisiana was a Spanish colony and George Washington was serving as President of the new republic known as the United States of America. The descendents of Ursiana Manuel are still living on the original land grant obtained by him during the Spanish domination of Louisiana. Other early settlers mentioned are Jacques Fontenot, Louis Redan, General Garis de Flaugeac, Artemon Lafleur, and Valentine Savoy. Savoy, incidentally, was the first man to begin the manufacture of spinning wheels in this part of the country. He also operated a large plantation, a cotton gin and a saw mill.
