You will also have to determine if you prefer to attend classes online or drive to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be important. The price of tuition and supplementary expenses will be an important variable also. But in addition to cost and location, what else should you factor in when comparing colleges? Well, you need to find out if the schools are accredited, and if they sponsor internship or externship programs. To help you learn some of these important details before you make your decision, we have compiled a list of questions that you should ask the colleges you are looking at.

Nevertheless, it’s still crucial to confirm that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed review of their instructors and course materials. If the program is online it can also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are often not accessible for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And a number of Lawrence KS health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited school for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Offered? Inquire if the Kansas xray technician colleges you are interested in have associations with local clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have sizable networks and good relationships with Lawrence KS healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For many students, the college they decide on will have to be within travelling distance of their Lawrence KS home. Individuals who have decided to attend classes online obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of person that likes to sit far in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will probably want a small class size. Small classes enable more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Lawrence KS schools you are researching what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to converse with a few of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the radiology technician program as well.

Does the College Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to confirm that the x-ray tech  school you finally pick can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you choose to continue working while you attend classes. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in Lawrence KS, check that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would have to enroll in. Also, learn what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss due to work, illness or family obligations.

Some Background on Lawrence Kansas

Lawrence, Kansas

Lawrence is the county seat of Douglas County and sixth largest city in Kansas. It is located in the northeastern sector of the state, next to Interstate 70, between the Kansas and Wakarusa Rivers. As of the 2010 census, the city's population was 87,643.[9] Lawrence is a college town and the home to the University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University.

Lawrence was founded by the New England Emigrant Aid Company and was named for Amos Adams Lawrence who offered financial aid and support for the settlement.[10][11] Lawrence was central to the Bleeding Kansas era and was the site of the Wakarusa War (1855) the Sack of Lawrence (1856), and the Lawrence Massacre (1863).[12]

Lawrence began as a center of Kansas politics. However, its economy soon diversified into many industries including agriculture, manufacturing, and ultimately education, beginning with the founding of the University of Kansas in 1866, and later Haskell Indian Nations University in 1884.

Prior to Kansas Territory being opened to settlement in May 1854, most of Douglas County was part of the Shawnee Indian Reservation. The Oregon Trail followed the Kansas River through what would become Lawrence, and Hogback Ridge (the hill that would come to be known as Mount Oread) was used as a landmark and an outlook by those on the trail.[13]

The origins of Lawrence also have their roots in the issue of slavery that plagued the United States in the 1800s. In the middle of the century, in the run-up to the Civil War, Northern Democrats led by Senators Lewis Cass of Michigan and Stephen A. Douglas of Illinois promoted the idea of popular sovereignty as a middle position on the slavery issue. The two argued that the actual residents of territories should be able to decide by voting whether or not slavery would be allowed in a newly created territory. Douglas applied popular sovereignty to Kansas in the Kansas Nebraska Act which passed Congress in 1854. After the law's passing, outrage united anti-slavery forces into a movement (which soon was institutionalized as the Republican Party) committed to stopping the expansion of slavery. Within no time, pro- and anti-slavery elements were moving into Kansas with the intention of either approving or banning the practice of slavery, respectively.[14] According to Rev. Richard Cordley (who was a noted member of the early Lawrence community):
