An Associate Degree, which is the most common among technicians, generally requires 18 months to 2 years to complete based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at as much as 4 years to complete and is more extensive in scope. The majority of students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional related majors that may be appropriate as well. Something to bear in mind is that Mesa AZ radiographer programs have a clinical training or lab component as part of their course of study. It can frequently be satisfied by participating in an externship program which many colleges sponsor through local clinics and hospitals in their region. Once you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you must comply with any licensing or certification mandates in Arizona or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

Radiologic Technologist Certification and Licensing

When you have graduated from an x-ray technician program, based on the state where you will be practicing you may need to become licensed. Most states do require licensing, and their requirements vary so check with your state. Currently, all states that do require licensing will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the purpose of licensing, but a number provide additional options for testing as well. Some states also require certification as a component of the licensing process, if not it is optional. Having said that, many Mesa AZ employers will only hire radiology techs that are certified so it might improve your career options to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an accepted program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive exam. Plus online colleges are often more affordable than conventional alternatives. In addition to lower tuition, costs for commuting and study materials can be decreased also. But just confirm that the online school you choose is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). Questions to Ask Radiology Tech Schools

Once you have selected the type of degree that you would like to obtain, you can initiate the process of looking for and assessing Mesa AZ x-ray technician colleges. You will also have to decide if you prefer to attend classes online or commute to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then naturally the location of the college will be relevant. The cost of tuition and secondary expenses will be an important factor as well. But along with cost and location, what else should you consider when comparing schools? Well, you need to ask if the schools are accredited, and if they sponsor internship or externship programs. To help you uncover some of these crucial details before you make your decision, we have assembled a list of questions that you should ask the colleges you are reviewing.

Are the Radiology Technician Programs Accredited? A large number of xray technician schools have obtained some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still important to make sure that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through an extensive assessment of their instructors and educational materials. If the school is online it may also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online education. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also help in securing financial aid and student loans, which are often not accessible for non-accredited schools. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Mesa AZ health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry-level jobs.

Are Internships Offered? Ask if the Arizona xray tech programs you are reviewing have associations with area clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent means to receive hands on training in a clinical setting, they are also a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may help students and graduates develop professional relationships in the Mesa AZ healthcare community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help available? You will undoubtedly wish to hit the ground running after graduating, but finding that first job in a new profession can be challenging without help. Ask if the x-ray tech schools you are reviewing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have substantial networks and great relationships with Mesa AZ healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the School Located? For many students, the school they choose will need to be within travelling distance of their Mesa AZ home. Students who have opted to attend online classes naturally will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. One thing to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges typically charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the type of student that likes to sit way in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will undoubtedly prefer a small class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Mesa AZ schools you are considering what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with some of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the x-ray technician program as well.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to verify that the radiographer  school you ultimately pick can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you decide to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in Mesa AZ, make certain that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, find out if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would have to carry. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss as a result of work, illness or family emergencies.

Some Background on Mesa Arizona

Mesa, Arizona

Mesa (/ˈmeɪsə/ MAY-sə) is a city in Maricopa County, in the U.S. state of Arizona. It is a suburb located about 20 miles (32 km) east of Phoenix. Mesa is the central city of the East Valley section of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. It is bordered by Tempe on the west, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community on the north, Chandler and Gilbert on the south along with Queen Creek, and Apache Junction on the east.

Mesa is the third-largest city in Arizona, after Phoenix and Tucson, and the 38th-largest city in the US. The city is home to 439,041 people as of 2010 according to the Census Bureau. Mesa is home to numerous higher education facilities including the Polytechnic campus of Arizona State University.

The history of Mesa dates back at least 2,000 years to the arrival of the Hohokam people. The Hohokam, whose name means "All Used Up" or "The Departed Ones", built the original canal system. The canals were the largest and most sophisticated in the prehistoric New World. Some were up to 90 feet (27 m) wide and ten feet deep at their head gates, extending for as far as 16 miles (26 km) across the desert. By A.D. 1100 water could be delivered to an area over 110,000 acres (450 km2), transforming the Sonoran Desert into an agricultural oasis. By A.D. 1450, the Hohokam had constructed hundreds of miles of canals many of which are still in use today.[4]

After the disappearance of the Hohokam and before the arrival of the early settlers little is known, as explorers did not venture into this area. By the late 19th century near present-day Mesa, U.S. Army troops subdued the Apache opening the way for settlement.[5]

Mormon pioneer Daniel Webster Jones led an expedition to found a Mormon settlement in Arizona. Leaving St. George, Utah in March 1877, Jones and others arrived at Lehi, an area within the northern edge of present-day Mesa. Jones had been asked by Mormon officials to direct a party of people in establishing a settlement in Arizona. This settlement was initially known as Jonesville and Fort Utah and did not receive the name of Lehi until 1883, when it was adopted on the suggestion of Brigham Young, Jr.[6]
