Radiologic technologist pupils have the choice to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among technicians, usually takes 18 months to two years to finish based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at as much as 4 years to complete and is more comprehensive in scope. Most students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional similar majors that may be appropriate also. One thing to consider is that Chandler AZ radiographer colleges have a practical training or lab component as part of their course of study. It can typically be fulfilled by participating in an externship program which many schools sponsor through local hospitals and clinics in their area. Once you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you will need to comply with any certification or licensing requirements in Arizona or the state you will be working as applicable.

Radiographer Licensing and Certification

Once you have graduated from an x-ray technician program, based on the state where you will be working you might have to be licensed. Most states do require licensing, and their criteria differ so contact your state. Several states also require certification as a component of the licensing process, otherwise it is optional. However, numerous Chandler AZ employers would rather hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it might improve your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an approved program as well as a passing score on their rigorous examination. So while you can still earn your online degree, a substantial portion of the training will be completed either in a school lab or in an externship off campus. Practical training is typically provided in regional family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the colleges. But the online segment of the training can be accessed in the comfort of your Chandler AZ residence. Students who continue working while obtaining their degree often find that the online style of learning is far more convenient with their active schedules. Plus online colleges are often less costly than traditional alternatives. Along with lower tuition, costs for commuting and study materials can be lessened as well. But just be sure that the online program you pick is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then an online degree may be the ideal choice for you.

Subjects to Ask X Ray Tech Programs

When you have decided on the type of degree that you would like to earn, you can start the process of locating and assessing Chandler AZ x-ray technician colleges. You will also have to determine if you want to attend online classes or commute to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then naturally the location of the college will be critical. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenses will be a determining variable also. But along with cost and location, what more should you look at when evaluating schools? Well, you need to ask if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor internship or externship programs. To help you learn some of these important details before you make your selection, we have assembled a list of questions that you need to ask the programs you are reviewing.

Are the X-Ray Technician Schools Accredited? The majority of radiology tech colleges have earned some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still important to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a detailed assessment of their instructors and course materials. If the college is online it might also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance learning. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also assist in getting financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not available for non-accredited schools. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Chandler AZ health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry-level jobs.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Inquire if the Arizona xray tech schools you are reviewing have partnerships with local hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a great means to get hands on training in a clinical setting, they are additionally a way to satisfy the clinical training requirement for most programs. As a supplemental benefit, they can help students and graduates develop professional relationships in the Chandler AZ health care community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help offered? You will most likely want to hit the ground running after graduating, but finding that initial job in a new field can be difficult without assistance. Ask if the radiographer schools you are reviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Chandler AZ healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For many students, the college they decide on will have to be within driving distance of their Chandler AZ home. Individuals who have chosen to attend online classes obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. Something to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the sort of person that prefers to sit far in the back of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will probably want a smaller class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Chandler AZ schools you are researching what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with several of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray technician program also.

Can the College Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to confirm that the x-ray tech  college you ultimately pick can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you decide to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in Chandler AZ, check that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to carry. Also, find out what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss due to illness, work or family emergencies.

Some Background on Chandler Arizona

Chandler, Arizona

Chandler is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, and is a prominent suburb of the Phoenix, Arizona, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). It is bordered to the north and west by Tempe, to the north by Mesa, to the west by Phoenix, to the south by the Gila River Indian Community, and to the east by Gilbert. As of July 2015, the population was 260,828 according to the United States Census Bureau,[4] According to the city's official website, Chandler's Transportation & Development Department estimated the population, as of May 2016, to be 247,328. It also has satellite locations for many technology companies, including Intel and Orbital ATK.

In 1891, Dr. Alexander John Chandler, the first veterinary surgeon in Arizona Territory, settled on a ranch south of Mesa, studying irrigation engineering. By 1900, he had acquired 18,000 acres (73 km2) of land, and began drawing up plans for a townsite on what was then known as the Chandler Ranch. The townsite office opened on May 17, 1912, the same year that Chandler High School was established.[5] The townsite was bounded by Galveston Street on the north, Frye Road on the south, Hartford Street on the west, & Hamilton Street on the east.[6] By 1913, a town center had become established, featuring the Hotel San Marcos, the first golf resort in the state.

Most of Chandler's economy was successfully sustained during the Great Depression (a second San Marcos hotel was canceled due to the Depression however), but the cotton crash a few years later had a much deeper impact on the city's residents. Later, the founding of Williams Air Force Base in 1941 led to a small surge in population, but Chandler still only held 3,800 people by 1950. By 1980, it had grown to 30,000, and it has since paced the Phoenix metropolitan area's high rate of growth, with vast suburban residential areas swallowing former agricultural plots. Some of this growth was fueled by the establishment of manufacturing plants for communications and computing firms such as Microchip, Motorola and Intel.

Since the early 1990s, the City of Chandler has experienced exponential growth, ranking among the fastest-growing municipalities in the country. Indeed, nearly 100,000 homes dot the landscape today and the population has surged to more than 238,000 residents. The heart of Chandler remains its revitalized historic downtown, which includes the award-winning Chandler City Hall and a Center for the Arts. In 2010, Chandler was named as an All-America City, bestowed by the National Civic League. Chandler was the only Arizona winner for the 61st annual awards.[citation needed] In 2012, the city celebrated its 100th Birthday. Centennial events were planned throughout the year.

According to the United States Census Bureau, Chandler has a total area of 58.0 square miles (150 km2), of which, 57.9 square miles (150 km2) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) of it (0.17%) is water.
