Next, they check tuition and usually settle on the most affordable cost. But while location and cost must be taken into account, there are additional critical qualifiers as well. For example, you need to ask if the radiology tech schools have earned accreditation, or if they sponsor internships. These inquiries and others you must ask the colleges you are considering are provided later in this article. But first, let’s explore what a radiologic technician does and the degrees and education options that are available.

Radiology Technician Career Description

There are a number of professional designations for x-ray techs (technologists or technicians). They can also be referred to as radiologic technologists, radiologic technicians, radiographers or radiology techs. No matter what the name, they all have the identical major job function, which is to utilize imaging machines to internally view patients for the objective of diagnosis and treatment. A number of radiologic technologists might also administer radiation therapy for the treatment of cancer. Many elect to work as generalists, while others may choose a specialty, such as mammography. They may work in California City CA clinics, hospitals, private practices or outpatient diagnostic imaging centers. The imaging technologies that an X-Ray technician might utilize include:

  • Traditional and specialized X-Rays
  • Computerized tomography (CT) or “CAT” scans
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Sonography or ultrasound
  • Fluoroscopy

Radiographers have to maintain their equipment and also frequently analyze its performance and safety. They are also required to retain in-depth records of all of their diagnostic procedures. As California City CA health practitioners, they must adhere to a code of conduct and a high professional standard.

X-Ray Technician Degrees

Radiologic technologist pupils have the option to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among techs, generally takes 18 months to 2 years to complete based upon the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to 4 years to complete and is more extensive in nature. Most students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are other similar majors that may be acceptable also. Something to bear in mind is that California City CA radiographer programs have a practical training or lab component as part of their course of study. It may typically be satisfied by participating in an externship program which a large number of schools offer through local clinics and hospitals in their area. After you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you must abide by any certification or licensing requirements in California or the state you will be working as applicable.

X-ray Technician Licensing and Certification

When you have graduated from an x-ray technician program, depending on the state where you will be working you may need to become licensed. The majority of states do mandate licensing, and their requirements vary so check with your state. At present, all states that do require licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but a number offer additional options for testing as well. Some states also call for certification as part of the licensing procedure, otherwise it is optional. Having said that, numerous California City CA employers would rather hire radiology techs that are certified so it might increase your career options to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an approved program in addition to a passing score on their rigorous exam. ARRT also calls for re-certification every 2 years, which may be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an examination.

Online X-Ray Technician Classes

attending x-ray tech school online in California City 93504As a part of any degree program, x-ray tech schools will have practical or lab training included in their course of study. This is the same for online degree schools. So although you can still earn your online degree, a large portion of the training will be completed either in a school lab or in an externship off campus. Practical training is often performed in area hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the colleges. However the online segment of the training can be accessed in the comfort of your California City CA home. Students who continue working while earning their degree usually discover that the online approach to education is much more practical with their active schedules. Plus online schools are frequently less costly than conventional options. In addition to lower tuition, expenses for study materials and commuting may be reduced also. But just make sure that the online program you choose is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less formalized type of training, then online classes may be the right choice for you.

Points to Ask X Ray Tech Programs

As soon as you have chosen the kind of degree that you want to obtain, you can begin the process of looking for and assessing California City CA x-ray technician colleges. You will also have to decide if you want to attend online classes or drive to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be relevant. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenses will be an important factor also. But along with cost and location, what else should you consider when comparing schools? Well, you should ask if the schools are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you find out some of these essential details prior to making your decision, we have assembled a list of questions that you need to ask the colleges you are reviewing.

Are the X-Ray Tech Schools Accredited? A large number of xray technician schools have earned some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. Nevertheless, it’s still important to verify that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a rigorous assessment of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online learning. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with ensuring a superior education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not offered for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous California City CA health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Offered? Find out if the California xray tech colleges you are reviewing have relationships with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a terrific manner to obtain practical training in a clinical setting, they are also a way to fulfill the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they can help students and graduates form professional relationships in the California City CA healthcare community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help offered? You will undoubtedly want to hit the ground running after graduating, but getting that first job in a new profession can be challenging without support. Ask if the x-ray tech programs you are reviewing have job placement programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with California City CA healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the college they decide on will need to be within driving distance of their California City CA residence. Those who have decided to attend online classes obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. Something to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges frequently charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of person that prefers to sit way in the rear of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will probably want a small class size. Smaller classes permit more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the California City CA schools you are considering what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with a few of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the x-ray tech program as well.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the radiographer  college you ultimately select can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you opt to continue working while you attend school. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in California City CA, make sure that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to enroll in. Also, find out what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of work, illness or family obligations.

Why Did You Choose to Become a Radiologic Technologist?

When preparing to interview for an X-Ray Tech job, it's helpful to consider questions you might be asked. Among the questions that recruiters typically ask radiographer applicants is "What compelled you to decide on radiography as a career?". What the interviewer is hoping to uncover is not only the private reasons you might have for becoming a radiology technician, but additionally what attributes and skills you have that make you exceptional at what you do. You will probably be asked questions relating specifically to radiography, in addition to a certain number of standard interview questions, so you must organize a number of approaches about how you want to answer them. Because there are so many factors that go into choosing a career, you can answer this primary question in a multitude of ways. When preparing an answer, aim to include the reasons the work appeals to you in addition to the strengths you possess that make you an excellent X-Ray tech and the ideal choice for the job. Don't try to memorize a response, but jot down some concepts and anecdotes that relate to your personal experiences and strengths. Reading through sample answers can help you to prepare your own thoughts, and give you ideas of what to include to impress the recruiter.

Some Background on California City California

California City, California

California City is a city incorporated in 1965 in the northern Antelope Valley in Kern County, California, 65 miles (105 km) southwest of Death Valley National Park. The population was 14,120 at the 2010 census making California City the 331st largest city in the state by population. Covering 203.631 square miles (527.40 km2), the city is the third largest city in the state by area.

California City has a PGA golf course, one prison, one municipal airport, and is home to the California City Whiptails, a professional independent baseball league team associated with the Pecos League.[9] Much of the workforce of Edwards Air Force Base, which is located just to the south of the city, is made up of city residents. Other major sources of employment include California City Correctional Center (California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation); Mojave Air and Space Port and its flight test operations; the Hyundai/Kia Proving Grounds located in the rural southwestern part of the city; and nearby cities, such as Tehachapi, Ridgecrest, Boron, Palmdale, and Lancaster.

The area where California City now exists was largely uninhabited prior to the 1960s. Padre Francisco Garcés, a Franciscan missionary, camped at Castle Butte in what is now California City in 1776 during the Juan Bautista de Anza expedition of modern-day California and Arizona, then part of Alta California.

In the late 19th century, the Twenty Mule Team Trail, which carried loads of borax to the railhead in Mojave from Harmony Borax Works mines in the east, ran through the California City area.[10]

California City had its origins in 1958 when real estate developer and sociology professor Nat Mendelsohn purchased 80,000 acres (32,000 ha) of Mojave Desert land with the aim of master-planning California's next great city. He designed his model city, which he hoped would one day rival Los Angeles in size, around a Central Park with a 26-acre (11 ha) artificial lake. Growth fell well short of his expectations. Today, a vast grid of crumbling paved roads which define residential blocks, extend well beyond the developed area of the city. Satellite photos underscore its claim to being California's 3rd largest geographic city, 34th largest in the US (by 2010 it had fallen to 40th largest in the US). California City was incorporated on December 10, 1965. This could be considered an example of a failed planned city.
