But first, let’s talk about what a radiology technician does and the degrees and training choices that are offered.

They may also be referred to as radiologic technologists, radiologic technicians, radiographers or radiology techs. No matter what the name, each has the identical major job description, which is to employ imaging machines to internally view patients for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment. Some radiologic technologists might also administer radiation therapy for treating cancer. Some choose to work as generalists, while there are those that have chosen a specialization, such as mammography. They can practice in Crawford CO hospitals, clinics, family practices or outpatient diagnostic imaging centers. The imaging technologies that an X-Ray technologist may work with include:

  • Traditional and specialized X-Rays
  • Computerized tomography (CT) or “CAT” scans
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Sonography or ultrasound
  • Fluoroscopy

Radiographers must take care of their equipment and also frequently evaluate its functionality and safety. They are additionally expected to retain detailed records of all of their diagnostic procedures. As Crawford CO medical practitioners, they must adhere to a code of conduct and a high professional standard.

Radiology Tech Degrees Available

x-ray machine in Crawford COThe primary requirement for attending an x-ray tech program is to have received a high school diploma or GED. Radiologic technologist pupils have the option to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among techs, normally requires 18 months to two years to complete depending on the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at as much as 4 years to finish and is more extensive in scope. Most students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional related majors that are appropriate as well. Something to consider is that Crawford CO radiographer colleges have a practical training or lab component as a component of their curriculum. It may frequently be fulfilled by participating in an internship or externship program which many schools offer through local hospitals and clinics in their area. Once you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you will need to abide by any certification or licensing mandates in Colorado or the state you will be working as applicable.

Radiographer Certification and Licensing

Once you have graduated from an x-ray technician program, based on the state where you will be practicing you might need to be licensed. Most states do require licensing, and their criteria vary so contact your state. Currently, all states that do require licensure will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but several provide additional options for testing also. A number of states also call for certification as a component of the licensing process, if not it is optional. However, many Crawford CO employers would rather hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it could improve your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an approved program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive exam. ARRT also demands re-certification every two years, which can be met with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an examination.

Online Radiology Technician Programs

attending x-ray tech school online in Crawford 81415As a part of every degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have practical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is no different for online degree schools. So although you can still obtain your degree online, a considerable amount of the training will be fulfilled either in a college lab or in an externship off-campus. Practical training is often performed in regional family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the schools. But the online section of the training may be attended in the privacy of your Crawford CO residence. Students who keep working while earning their degree usually discover that the online style of learning is far more convenient with their active schedules. Plus online colleges are frequently cheaper than conventional options. Along with reduced tuition, expenditures for commuting and study materials can be decreased as well. But just make certain that the online program you choose is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less formalized type of training, then online classes may be the right option for you.

What to Ask Radiologic Tech Programs

As soon as you have selected the type of degree that you would like to obtain, you can begin the process of finding and evaluating Crawford CO x-ray tech colleges. You will also need to determine if you want to attend classes online or drive to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then obviously the location of the school will be relevant. The price of tuition and ancillary expenditures will be an important factor also. But along with location and cost, what else should you consider when reviewing colleges? Well, you should ask if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you uncover some of these important details prior to making your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the programs you are considering.

Are the X-Ray Tech Programs Accredited? Most radiology tech colleges have obtained some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Nevertheless, it’s still important to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through an extensive review of their instructors and course materials. If the program is online it can also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online education. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also help in getting financial assistance and student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And a number of Crawford CO health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Provided? Inquire if the Colorado radiology technician colleges you are assessing have associations with regional hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a great means to receive practical experience in a clinical environment, they are also a means to satisfy the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they may help students and graduates establish professional relationships in the Crawford CO medical community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help offered? You will undoubtedly want to secure employment quickly after graduation, but finding that initial job in a new profession can be challenging without assistance. Ask if the x-ray tech programs you are reviewing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Crawford CO healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For a lot of students, the college they select will need to be within travelling distance of their Crawford CO residence. Those who have chosen to attend classes online naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges typically charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of person that likes to sit far in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will probably prefer a smaller class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Crawford CO schools you are researching what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to talk with several of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the radiology technician program also.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to confirm that the x-ray tech  school you ultimately pick can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you choose to continue working while you attend school. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in Crawford CO, make certain that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to enroll in. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss due to illness, work or family obligations.

Some Background on Crawford Colorado

Joan Crawford

Joan Crawford (born Lucille Fay LeSueur; c. March 23, 1904[Note 1] – May 10, 1977) was an American film and television actress who began her career as a dancer and stage showgirl. In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Crawford tenth on its list of the greatest female stars of Classic Hollywood Cinema.

Beginning her career as a dancer in traveling theatrical companies, before debuting as a chorus girl on Broadway, Crawford signed a motion picture contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1925. In the 1930s, Crawford's fame rivaled, and later outlasted, MGM colleagues Norma Shearer and Greta Garbo. Crawford often played hard-working young women who find romance and success. These stories were well received by Depression-era audiences and were popular with women. Crawford became one of Hollywood's most prominent movie stars and one of the highest-paid women in the United States, but her films began losing money and, by the end of the 1930s, she was labelled "box office poison". But her career gradually improved in the early 1940s, and she made a major comeback in 1945 by starring in Mildred Pierce, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. She would go on to receive Best Actress nominations for Possessed (1947) and Sudden Fear (1952). She continued to act in film and television throughout the 1950s and 1960s; she achieved box office success with the highly successful horror film Whatever Happened To Baby Jane? (1962), in which she starred alongside Bette Davis, her long-time rival.[14]

In 1955, Crawford became involved with the Pepsi-Cola Company through her marriage to company Chairman Alfred Steele. After his death in 1959, Crawford was elected to fill his vacancy on the board of directors, serving until she was forcibly retired in 1973. After the release of the British horror film Trog in 1970, Crawford retired from the screen. Following a public appearance in 1974, after which unflattering photographs were published,[15] Crawford withdrew from public life and became increasingly reclusive until her death in 1977.[16]

Crawford married four times. Her first three marriages ended in divorce; the last ended with the death of husband Alfred Steele. She adopted five children, one of whom was reclaimed by his birth mother. Crawford's relationships with her two elder children, Christina and Christopher, were acrimonious. Crawford disinherited the two, and, after Crawford's death, Christina wrote a well-known "tell-all" memoir titled Mommie Dearest (1978).[17]

Born Lucille Fay LeSueur in San Antonio, Texas, the youngest and third child of Anna Bell (Johnson) and Thomas E. LeSueur, a laundry laborer. She was of English, French Huguenot, Swedish, and Irish ancestry.[18] Crawford's elder siblings were sister Daisy LeSueur, who died before Lucille's birth, and brother Hal LeSueur.[19]
