But just be sure that the online school you pick is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less structured style of training, then an online degree may be the right option for you.

Subjects to Ask Radiographer Colleges

When you have chosen the type of degree that you want to obtain, you can start the process of looking for and evaluating Arkansas City KS x-ray tech colleges. You will also have to decide if you prefer to attend online classes or commute to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the school will be relevant. The price of tuition and supplementary expenditures will be a material factor as well. But along with location and cost, what else should you consider when comparing schools? Well, you should ask if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these important details prior to making your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the programs you are reviewing.

Are the X-Ray Technician Schools Accredited? The majority of xray technician colleges have acquired some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still imperative to verify that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a detailed evaluation of their instructors and educational materials. If the program is online it can also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online learning. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not accessible for non-accredited schools. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Arkansas City KS employers will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry level jobs.

Are Internship Programs Sponsored? Ask if the Kansas xray tech schools you are interested in have associations with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific manner to receive hands on experience in a clinical environment, they are also a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help graduates and students establish professional relationships in the Arkansas City KS healthcare community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will most likely wish to hit the ground running after graduating, but getting that first job in a new field can be challenging without assistance. Ask if the radiographer schools you are reviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good indication that the schools have sizable networks and great relationships with Arkansas City KS healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For a lot of students, the college they decide on will need to be within commuting distance of their Arkansas City KS residence. Those who have decided to attend classes online obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. One thing to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of student that likes to sit way in the back of class or hide in the crowd, you will probably prefer a small class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Arkansas City KS colleges you are looking at what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with a few of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray tech program also.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to confirm that the radiographer  school you ultimately select can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you choose to continue working while you attend classes. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in Arkansas City KS, confirm that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would need to enroll in. Also, find out what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss as a result of illness, work or family obligations.

Why Did You Decide to Be a Radiology Technician?

When preparing to interview for an X-Ray Tech job, it's helpful to review questions you may be asked. One of the questions that hiring managers typically ask radiographer applicants is "What drove you to pick radiography as a career?". What the interviewer is trying to learn is not merely the private reasons you might have for being an X-Ray tech, but additionally what characteristics and talents you have that make you exceptional at your profession. You will likely be asked questions relating exclusively to radiography, as well as a significant number of standard interview questions, so you need to prepare a number of strategies about how you would like to answer them. Since there are several factors that go into selecting a career, you can respond to this fundamental question in a variety of ways. When preparing an answer, aim to include the reasons the work appeals to you as well as the talents you possess that make you an excellent X-Ray tech and the perfiect choice for the position. Some Background on Arkansas City Kansas

Arkansas City, Kansas

Arkansas City (pronounced /ɑːrˈkænzə ˈsɪti/)[6] is a city in Cowley County, Kansas, United States, situated at the confluence of the Arkansas and Walnut rivers in the southwestern part of the county. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 12,415.[7]

The name of this city is not pronounced like the nearby state of Arkansas, but rather as /ɑːrˈkænzəs/ (the final "s" is pronounced). Over the years there has been much confusion about the regional pronunciation of "Arkansas", which locals render as /ɑːrˈkænzəs/ rather than /ˈɑːrkənsɔː/.[8] Throughout much of Kansas, residents use this alternative pronunciation when referring to the Arkansas River, as well as Arkansas Street in the city of Wichita. Because of this, and for the sake of brevity, Arkansas City is most often referred to as simply Ark City.[citation needed]

In 1601, New Mexico Governor Juan de Oñate led an expedition across the Great Plains and found a large settlement of Indians he called Rayados. The most likely location for the Rayado settlement was along the Walnut River in the eastern part of Arkansas City. Extensive remains of Indian settlements have been found along six miles (9.7 km) of the Walnut River. The Rayados were the ancestors of the Indians later called Wichita. Wichita settlements from the 18th century are also found a few miles south of Arkansas City on the west bank of the Arkansas River.[9] (See Deer Creek/Bryson Paddock Sites)

White settlers first congregated in the area where Arkansas City now stands in the 1860s. The natives referred to the place as "Nichonka", which roughly translates as "place between the waters" — a reference to the confluence of the Arkansas and Walnut rivers.[citation needed]

Settlers supposedly established a town in around 1870. They had difficulty choosing a name; at first they hoped to flatter U.S. Postmaster General John A. J. Creswell (and win a highly sought-after post office) by naming the town Creswell in his honor, but cities in other states had already used the name. The town fathers considered other names, such as Adelphia and Walnut City. Finally, the name Arkansas City was adopted for the town.[10] The first post office in Arkansas City was established on May 16, 1870.[11]
