They can work in Neodesha KS hospitals, clinics, private practices or outpatient diagnostic imaging centers. The imaging technologies that an X-Ray tech might utilize include:

  • Traditional and specialized X-Rays

Radiologic technologist pupils have the option to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at as much as 4 years to complete and is more expansive in scope. The majority of students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are other related majors that may be appropriate as well. One thing to bear in mind is that Neodesha KS radiographer colleges have a practical training or lab component as part of their curriculum. It may typically be satisfied by participating in an internship or externship program which many colleges offer through local hospitals and clinics in their area. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you must comply with any certification or licensing requirements in Kansas or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

X-ray Technician Certification and Licensing

Once you have graduated from an Radiologist program, based on the state where you will be practicing you may have to be licensed. Most states do require licensing, and their requirements differ so check with your state. Presently, all states that do require licensing will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the purpose of licensing, but several offer additional alternatives for testing as well. Several states also require certification as a component of the licensing procedure, otherwise it is optional. Having said that, numerous Neodesha KS employers would rather hire radiology techs that are certified so it might improve your career options to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an accepted program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive exam. ARRT also demands re-certification every two years, which may be met with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an examination.

Online Radiology Technician Schools

This is no different for online degree programs. So although you can still obtain your degree online, a substantial portion of the training will be satisfied either in a college lab or in an externship off-campus. Clinical training is often provided in local family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the colleges. However the online portion of the training may be attended in the privacy of your Neodesha KS residence. Students who keep working while obtaining their degree typically find that the online approach to learning is much more convenient with their hectic schedules. Plus online schools are frequently less costly than conventional alternatives. In addition to lower tuition, expenses for commuting and study materials can be decreased as well. But just make certain that the online college you choose is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less formalized type of training, then an online degree may be the right option for you.

What to Ask Radiologic Tech Programs

When you have selected the kind of degree that you would like to obtain, you can initiate the process of finding and assessing Neodesha KS x-ray technician schools. You will also need to decide if you want to attend online classes or commute to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then naturally the location of the college will be critical. The cost of tuition and secondary expenditures will be an important variable also. But along with location and cost, what else should you look at when comparing colleges? Well, you should ask if the schools are accredited, and if they sponsor internship or externship programs. To help you uncover some of these essential details before you make your selection, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the schools you are looking at.

Are the Radiology Technician Programs Accredited? The majority of xray tech colleges have received some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still crucial to verify that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed assessment of their teachers and course materials. If the school is online it may also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online learning. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also help in acquiring financial assistance and student loans, which are often not offered for non-accredited schools. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And a number of Neodesha KS health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry-level jobs.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Inquire if the Kansas radiology tech schools you are evaluating have relationships with area clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent way to obtain hands on training in a clinical setting, they are also a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may help students and graduates form professional connections in the Neodesha KS medical community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help offered? You will most likely wish to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that initial job in a new field can be difficult without help. Ask if the x-ray tech schools you are reviewing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good indication that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Neodesha KS healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the College Located? For a number of students, the college they decide on will need to be within travelling distance of their Neodesha KS home. Those who have opted to attend classes online naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. Something to consider is that if you decide to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges usually charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that likes to sit far in the rear of class or get lost in the crowd, you will probably want a smaller class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Neodesha KS colleges you are researching what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to speak with several of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray technician program as well.

Does the College Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the radiographer  school you finally select can offer the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you decide to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in Neodesha KS, verify that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, verify if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would have to enroll in. Also, learn what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of illness, work or family emergencies.

Neodesha, Kansas

Neodesha /niːˈoʊdəʃeɪ/ is a city in Wilson County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 2,486.[6] The name is derived from the Osage Indian word, Ni-o-sho-de, and is translated as The-Water-Is-Smoky-With-Mud.[7]

The first settlers in the area that would eventually become Neodesha established a trading post in October 1867 to the northwest of the present town. They were allowed by the Osage Indians to establish a trading post on the Osage Diminished Reserve because the nearest trading post was over thirty miles away. After the Drum Creek Treaty had been signed by the Osage tribe in September 1870 and the tribe moved to Indian Territory; it opened the way for settlers to move to the area. Neodesha was incorporated March 2, 1871 and the original plat was filed with the U.S. Land Office in July 1871.[8] Neodesha is an Osage name meaning "meeting of the waters".[9]

The first railroad was built through Neodesha in 1879.[10]

The first commercially successful oil well drilled in what would become the Mid-Continent Oil Field was drilled in Neodesha in 1892. Norman No. 1 Oil Well was located in the southeast part of the city. The Norman No. 1 Museum is near the location of the original wellsite.[11]

In 1943, German and Italian prisoners of World War II were brought to Kansas and other Midwest states as a means of solving the labor shortage caused by American men serving in the war effort. Large internment camps were established in Kansas: Camp Concordia, Camp Funston (at Fort Riley), Camp Phillips (at Salina under Fort Riley). Fort Riley established 12 smaller branch camps, including Neodesha.[12]
