However, many Wilmore KY employers will only hire radiology techs that are certified so it might improve your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an approved program in addition to a passing score on their comprehensive examination. But just make certain that the online program you select is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then online classes may be the ideal option for you.

Topics to Ask Radiology Tech Schools

As soon as you have selected the kind of degree that you would like to earn, you can begin the process of finding and evaluating Wilmore KY x-ray technician colleges. You will also need to decide if you want to attend classes online or travel to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then naturally the location of the college will be critical. The cost of tuition and secondary expenses will be a determining variable as well. But in addition to cost and location, what else should you consider when evaluating colleges? Well, you need to ask if the schools are accredited, and if they sponsor internship or externship programs. To help you find out some of these important details prior to making your selection, we have put together a list of questions that you must ask the programs you are reviewing.

Are the Radiology Tech Schools Accredited? The majority of radiology technician colleges have obtained some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still crucial to confirm that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a detailed examination of their teachers and educational materials. If the college is online it might also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in acquiring financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not available for non-accredited programs. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Wilmore KY employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry-level openings.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Ask if the Kentucky xray technician colleges you are interested in have relationships with local hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a terrific way to get practical training in a clinical setting, they are also a way to satisfy the practical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they can help students and graduates form professional connections in the Wilmore KY healthcare community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will probably wish to secure employment quickly after graduation, but finding that first job in a new field can be difficult without assistance. Ask if the x-ray tech schools you are reviewing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Wilmore KY healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the School Located? For many students, the school they choose will need to be within travelling distance of their Wilmore KY residence. Individuals who have opted to attend classes online naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges typically charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that likes to sit way in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will likely prefer a small class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Wilmore KY schools you are looking at what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with several of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the radiology technician program as well.

Can the College Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must confirm that the x-ray tech  program you finally select can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you choose to continue working while you attend classes. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in Wilmore KY, confirm that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would have to carry. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss due to illness, work or family obligations.

Why Did You Decide to Be an X-Ray Tech?
