These questions and others you should ask the schools you are evaluating are provided later in this post. But first, let’s explore what a radiologic tech does and the credentials and education choices that are offered.

X-Ray Tech Work Summary

They may also be referred to as radiologic technicians or technologists, radiology technicians or radiographers. No matter what the name, they all have the same principal job function, which is to utilize imaging machines to internally view patients for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment. A number of radiologic technologists may also provide radiation therapy for the treatment of cancer. Some choose to practice as generalists, while there are those that have chosen a specialization, for instance mammography. They may practice in Reserve LA hospitals, clinics, private practices or outpatient diagnostic imaging centers. The imaging technologies that an X-Ray technician may work with include:

  • Traditional and specialized X-Rays
  • Computerized tomography (CT) or “CAT” scans
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Sonography or ultrasound
  • Fluoroscopy

Radiographers have to care for their equipment plus regularly analyze its functionality and safety. They are also expected to retain detailed records of all of their diagnostic procedures. As Reserve LA health practitioners, they are held to a high professional standard and code of conduct.

Radiology Technician Degrees Available

Radiologic technologist pupils have the option to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among techs, generally requires 18 months to 2 years to finish depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to four years to finish and is more extensive in nature. Most students opt for a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional similar majors that are acceptable as well. Something to keep in mind is that Reserve LA radiographer colleges have a clinical training or lab component as a component of their course of study. It may frequently be satisfied by participating in an internship or externship program which a large number of colleges offer through local clinics and hospitals in their region. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you will need to abide by any certification or licensing requirements in Louisiana or the state you will be working as applicable.

X-Ray Tech Certification and Licensing

When you have graduated from an X-Ray tech college, depending on the state where you will be employed you may need to be licensed. Most states do mandate licensing, and their requirements vary so contact your state. Currently, all states that do mandate licensing will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the licensing application, but a number approve other alternatives for testing as well. Some states also call for certification as part of the licensing process, otherwise it is voluntary. However, numerous Reserve LA employers favor hiring radiology techs that are certified so it might improve your career options to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their comprehensive examination. ARRT also demands re-certification every other year, which can be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an examination.

Online X-Ray Technologist Degrees

attending x-ray tech school online in Reserve 70084As a part of every degree program, x-ray tech schools will have practical or lab training included in their course of study. This is the same for online degree programs. So even though you can still obtain your degree online, a considerable amount of the training will be fulfilled either in a school lab or in an internship off-campus. Clinical training is usually provided in area family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the colleges. But the online section of the training may be accessed in the privacy of your Reserve LA residence. Students who keep working while obtaining their degree usually discover that the online style of education is far more practical with their hectic schedules. Plus online programs are generally less costly than conventional alternatives. Along with reduced tuition, expenses for commuting and study materials may be decreased as well. But just be sure that the online school you choose is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less structured style of training, then an online school may be the ideal option for you.

What to Ask Radiographer Schools

As soon as you have decided on the type of degree that you would like to earn, you can start the process of finding and evaluating Reserve LA x-ray tech colleges. You will also have to decide if you prefer to attend classes online or drive to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then naturally the location of the school will be critical. The cost of tuition and secondary expenditures will be a material variable as well. But in addition to location and cost, what else should you consider when comparing colleges? Well, you need to ask if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you uncover some of these important details before you make your selection, we have assembled a list of questions that you need to ask the schools you are looking at.

Are the X-Ray Tech Schools Accredited? Most xray tech schools have earned some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still important to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a rigorous evaluation of their instructors and educational materials. If the program is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance learning. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also assist in getting financial assistance and student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And a number of Reserve LA employers will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry-level jobs.

Are Internships Sponsored? Inquire if the Louisiana radiology tech schools you are assessing have relationships with regional hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a great means to receive hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are additionally a way to fulfill the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they can help graduates and students establish professional connections in the Reserve LA medical community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help offered? You will undoubtedly wish to secure employment quickly after graduation, but getting that initial job in a new profession can be challenging without help. Find out if the radiographer programs you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good sign that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Reserve LA healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the College Located? For a number of students, the college they pick will need to be within driving distance of their Reserve LA residence. Individuals who have chosen to attend online classes naturally will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. Something to bear in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges usually charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that prefers to sit far in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will probably want a small class size. Smaller classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Reserve LA schools you are reviewing what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with several of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray tech program as well.

Does the College Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the radiographer  school you ultimately select can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly essential if you decide to continue working while you attend classes. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in Reserve LA, check that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would have to enroll in. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss as a result of work, illness or family obligations.

Why Did You Want to Be an X-Ray Tech?

When prepping to interview for an X-Ray Tech position, it's helpful to consider questions you may be asked. One of the questions that recruiters typically ask radiographer prospects is "What drove you to choose radiography as a career?". What the interviewer is trying to uncover is not just the private reasons you may have for becoming a radiology technician, but also what qualities and skills you have that make you good at what you do. You will undoubtedly be asked questions pertaining specifically to radiography, as well as a certain number of typical interview questions, so you need to organize a number of approaches about how you would like to respond to them. Since there are so many factors that go into selecting a career, you can respond to this primary question in a number of ways. When preparing an answer, try to include the reasons the profession appeals to you in addition to the talents you possess that make you an outstanding X-Ray tech and the ideal choice for the position. Don't try to memorize an answer, but take down some ideas and topics that pertain to your own experiences and strengths. Some Background on Reserve Louisiana

Maya Biosphere Reserve

The Maya Biosphere Reserve (Spanish: Reserva de la Biosfera Maya) is a nature reserve in Guatemala managed by Guatemala's National Council of Protected Areas (CONAP). The Maya Biosphere Reserve covers an area of 21,602 km2.[2]

The park is home to a large number of species of fauna including Morelet's crocodile and the ocellated turkey. It is also rich in flora including breadnut, mahogany, Swietenia humilis, Bloma prisca, Vitex gaumeri, cedar, Bucida buceras, Haematoxylum campechianum, Rhizophora mangle, and Pimenta dioica. The area ranges from wetlands, to low mountain ranges, and has several bodies of water, including lakes, rivers, streams and cenotes.[3]

The Reserve was created in 1990 to protect the largest area of American tropical forest remaining north of the Amazon. The biosphere reserve model, implemented by UNESCO, seeks to promote a balance between human activities and the biosphere by including sustainable economic development in conservation planning.[3]

The Maya Biosphere Reserve is divided into several zones, each with a different protected status. The core zones are formed by several national parks and biotopes (wildlife preserves), in which no human settlement, logging, or extraction of resources are allowed. These include Laguna del Tigre National Park, Sierra del Lacandón National Park, Mirador-Río Azul National Park, Tikal National Park, El Zotz Biotope, Naachtún-Dos Lagunas Biotope, Cerro Cahuí Biotope, Laguna del Tigre Biotope, and El Pilar Natural Monument.[1][4][5] The core zones cover an area of 7670 km2, which is 36% of the Maya Biosphere Reserve.[5]

In multiple-use zones (8484.40 km2; 40%) and the buffer zone (4975 km2; 24%), which comprises the southern portion of the Reserve, certain regulated economic activities are allowed. These include the sustainable harvesting of wood and traditional forest products which include chicle, a sap used in the manufacture of chewing gum, xate, an ornamental palm plant used in floral arrangements, and pimenta or allspice. The Guatemalan government has granted forest concessions to local communities, giving them the right to practice sustainable forestry in delineated areas for 25 years. International monitoring groups such as the Forest Stewardship Council certify logging activities as sustainable. In 2005, 4,500 km2 (1,700 sq mi) were certified.[6] In other parts of the multiple-use zone, farming communities have been granted the right to continue farming in so-called agricultural polygons.[7]
